While out a mission, Corey met the love of his life, Pam Grayson, played by Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Circle. ) Trading his life as a spy, Corey enters the world of domestic bliss, a steady 9-5, weekly trips to the hardware store, and lots of talk of having friends over. As the honeymoon phase is coming to an end, Corey’s old partner, Blake Anderson (Workaholics), comes to him with an offer to capture the villain who got away. Corey must choose between saving the world and saving his marriage. If he isn’t too rusty, maybe he can do both. Rounding out the cast are Brittany Furlan (We Are Your Friends), Max Silvestri (Table 19), Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar! ), Brian Sacca (The Wolf of Wall Street), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), and Lane Garrison (Shooter). Spy Intervention will be available on major VOD platforms starting Valentine’s Day. Producer Sunil Perkash (Salt, Enchanted) isn’t a stranger to big-budget films where money can solve most of the problems that come up during production. Perkash and first-time feature-length Director Mylrea didn’t have that luxury or that burden on this film. When the amount of money dedicated to a project increases, so do the expectations. Not just about how well it will perform at the box office but how the film will look. Nothing but the latest and greatest special effects are expected for a 250-million-dollar movie like James Bond’s latest outing No Time to Die. When the team set out to design the look of Spy Intervention, they knew they would have a modest budget, and they wanted to have a plan. The settled on blending the modern with the classic in every aspect from set design to cinematography. The sets and props of the spy world are obvious fakes, but the way they are presented and how the cast interacts with them is the crucial factor. The actors all treat it like it is perfectly natural, and they are not played directly for laughs. Sure, when it looks like they are on the set of a play, using an obvious miniature or you swear the strings are still attached, it can be humorous. Still, it can also pull at the nostalgia strings tied to your affection for spy films of the 60s. The most significant change from Corey’s ordinary life to his spy mission is the aspect ratio that it is presented. Corey’s home life is shown in standard 16:9 ratio, which will fit your widescreen tv perfectly. His missions, however, are shown in 4:3, cutting off the edges like TV in the ’80s and ’90s. Mylrea and cinematographer Danny Grunes also played with the lighting and coloring of scenes for a little added flair. In a romantic spy comedy keeping the right tone falls heavily on the shoulders of the cast. Avy Kaufman was in charge of casting and was especially successful with the addition of Poppy Delevingne. Though she may not be as well known as her younger sister Cara, Poppy may be the superior actor. Poppy handles the comedic scenes well but excels in the film’s dramatic moments. You believe in the fear, anger, and self-doubt that she experiences as she begins to question Corey’s recent behavior. Drew Van Acker is probably best known for his role on the CW show Pretty Little Liars, which isn’t always known for stretching your acting ability. While he may not be as good as Poppy, he does handle himself well. Drew projects the image of a secret agent who would be more at home in the world of Kingsman with their attitude and comedic bend than he would be working with James Bond. Drew was at his best when he was sharing the screen with Poppy, which I good because it is the central relationship, but it does take away a bit from the spy scenes. Natasha Bassett, who plays Corey’s spy wife Alexandria, brought energy and a lot of charisma to her scenes that wanted more of every time she was off-screen. Drew Mylrea, along with writers Mark Famiglietti and Lane Garrison, did an excellent job walking the tightrope between heartfelt romantic story and a spy-themed action-comedy. While watching, you can’t help to compare it to movies like True Lies or This Means War, and while it may not have the budget of either of those projects, it does have heart, and it does have character. While it may not reach the peaks of True Lies, there are good odds that those who see Spy Intervention will want to introduce their friends and family to it, and it won’t be quickly forgotten.

Malware and backdoors are often pre-installed at the root level, and there is nothing a regular user can do about it. Most people are aware that their cellphone may have certain vulnerabilities and that they should be careful about the settings they choose, cautious when using the device to send and receive sensitive data and wary about what kind of apps to install. But would you have imagined that a brand-new mobile phone straight from the factory comes with pre-installed spyware? The phone may have an invisible app that manages to obtain elevated admin privileges and do things that you as a user can hardly detect and cannot disable. That app may even send out data packages to some remote server at night when you as the owner are sleeping and your cellphone is turned off.   That's not fiction, say Angelos Stavrou and Ryan Johnson from the US company Kryptowire. The programs are called lovelyfonts and lovelyhighfonts.  The Kryptowire experts found that lovelyfonts and lovelyhifonts cooperate in attacking the device. The functionality of the malware is split in two: One of the apps is in charge of the communication; the other functions as a container. Both appear to the layperson to be inconspicuous applications. They are not accessible through the launcher, which means most users will never even notice them.  But they open a backdoor to the computer for possible attackers and also transfer encrypted data to external storage in Shanghai, China. Many more vulnerabilities identified "Just in November 2019, we disclosed around 146 common vulnerabilities across 26 different vendors, " Stavrou says. And he announced that they have already identified "tons more"  that they are going to make public soon. "So it's not something that will end with this disclosure, " he warned, adding that "this is not the problem of a specific vendor or a specific company. " Some of the identified vulnerabilities allow attackers to get into the phone remotely, activate keyloggers, take screenshots or simply record everything the owner sees, does, says and hears, including the typing, deleting and correcting of passwords. "All the apps do not give any sign that they are running" Stavrou adds. "They can be running in the background, collecting all this information without your knowledge. Similar bugs may also exist in other operating systems. But the sheer number of Android devices makes them a more attractive target to attackers.  And the way the system software is developed and distributed makes it easier for them to get a foothold in the supply chain of the software. Of the estimated 5 billion people who are using mobile devices, 85% are using models based on a version of the Android operating system. Besides smartphones, Android is also running on a variety of other connected devices like TVs or car entertainment systems. The vulnerabilities extend to those, too. "Once applications are running on the infotainment system, if they cross the security boundary and potentially get on the car's CAN bus, they can control steering, braking and have very dire effects" Ryan Johnson warns. Part of the problem is the vulnerable software supply chain, Ryan Johnson points out. Why Android? It has a lot to do with the way cellphone developers and producers choose the software for the respective model and how they set up their devices. "Android is open-source, " Johnson points out. Google, which bought Android in 2005, makes the code available through the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Software developers, therefore, can freely design their system by choosing from a variety of apps with different functionalities in the AOSP marketplace. Producers and vendors then pick the apps they believe will set their specific product apart from those of other manufacturers. "Any vulnerability in the AOSP that is going to be in the core Android software gets propagated to the vendors", Johnson warns. "Any vendors that are using this version are going to inherit that vulnerability. Most apps that vendors have pre-installed are embedded at the root level of the respective device. It means that users cannot change, disable or delete those software components. And many of the components at the root level have elevated privileges: For example, they can open the door to install firmware updates automatically. And malware is able to abuse those privileges. Because the software comes from a large variety of different sources, the experts at Kryptowire had a hard time even getting the attention of the smartphone producers and vendors whose products had the bugs built into their system. "When we disclosed the vulnerabilities, we had problems identifying who the responsible party was and actually seeing through who was going to fix it, " Stavrou said. "Even if we report something, it takes a long time for them to identify and fix it. And in many cases, we did not get responses from parties that were in foreign countries [outside the US]. " While Kryptowire has developed a software solution to automatically detect the vulnerabilities, it is not yet a solution for ordinary customers buying a new device at their local electronics store. Even if you know what bugs your phone has, you can't necessarily fix them yourself. And with new software components hitting the market at a breathtaking pace, the bugs and vulnerabilities in pre-installed software are more likely to increase in number than come to an end anytime soon.
